We consider the North and Northwest Alaska area to be all area North of the Yukon River from the point it enters Alaska from the Canadian border near Eagle and westerly along the Yukon River to the point it enters the Bearing Sea near Emmonak Alaska and all land belonging to Alaska to the West and North of this line.

The North Slope is mostly tundra peppered with small villages. The area is known for it's massive reserves of crude oil, and contains both the National Petroleum Reserve–Alaska and the Prudhoe Bay Oil Field. Barrow, the northernmost city in the United States, is located here
